Pengaruh Model Discovery Learning Terhadap Peningkatan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Siswa Pada Materi Suhu dan Kalor Kelas XI MIPA

Abstract

This study aims to find out the difference and improvement of students' critical thinking skills after
applying the discovery learning model with the conventional learning model on temperature and heat
material in grade XI MIPA even semester at SMA N 1 Percut Sei Tuan. This type of research is a quasi
experiment with a sample of 30 students of class XI MIPA 5 as an experimental class and 30 students
of class XI MIPA 6 as a control class. The instrument used is a test of critical thinking skills. Before
being given different treatments, the average pre-test score of the experimental class was 52.56 and the
average pre-test score of the control class was 46.04. In the normality and homogeneity test, the pre
test data of the two classes was obtained that the data of the two classes were normally and
homogeneously distributed. The results of two-sided t-test on the pretest showed tvalue < ttable (1.993 <
2.002) which means H0 is accepted, indicating that the initial critical thinking abilities of experimental
and control class students are the same. Then, different treatments were applied, and post-tests were
conducted on both classes, resulting in the average post-test score of 85.996 for the experimental class
and 73.986 for the control class. Testing for normality and homogeneity of post-test data showed that
both classes had normal and homogeneous distributions.
